*Fertility Clinic Set to Open First Commercial Egg Bank - Controversial Facility Will Target Women Waiting for Mr. Right

By Amy Dockser Marcus, The Wall Street Journal, 1582 words Apr 17, 2002

Egg freezing is a difficult and delicate technology, with uncertain results. While there are hundreds of institutions in the U.S. that freeze sperm and

embryos, there are only about a dozen fertility clinics around the country that will freeze a womans eggs. They do it usually only on a case-by-case basis

-- as a last resort during in-vitro fertilization treatments when a couple is using donor eggs, or sperm isnt available at the same time as the eggs. Also

clinics make the service available to cancer patients when their treatment threatens to destroy their fertility.

*Letters to the Editor: First, Lets Count the Babies

The Wall Street Journal, 168 words Apr 29, 2002

Amy Marcuss April 17 article on egg freezing, 'Los Angeles Fertility Clinic Set to Offer Egg Banking to the Masses,' has one glaring omission: an example of

at least one baby proven to have been born as the result of the technique at this clinic. Freezing eggs is easy; the difficult task is turning frozen eggs

into healthy live births.
