Woodstock, GA, April 13, 2005 -- Atlanta Center for Reproductive Medicine pays tribute to the recent death and remembers Georgeanna Seegar Jones, MD for her lifelong commitment to research and advances in infertility treatment. Together with her husband, Howard Jones, MD, Georgeanna helped establish the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Their amazing medical collaboration also resulted in the first child conceived by in vitro fertilization in the United States in 1981. Doctor Jim Toner of ACRM completed extensive graduate coursework and held faculty positions at the Jones Institute and said, Doctor Georgeanna Jones was a role model for all of us who worked with her: a keen mind dedicated to improving the lives of women and families, who was at all times a lady, devoted to her own family and students. Our profession was made better by her, and we will all miss her.' ACRM was also honored to have Howard Jones, MD speak at its annual Infertility Symposium in 2003. Dr. Jones addressed attendees from around the state on the history of fertility technology and ethical issues surrounding treatment.
